I found something very interesting in this morning's MOB discussion. After Cain killed Able, we see him become a fugitive and a vagabond (Gen.4:14). Cain then "goes out" from the presence of the Lord to live in the city of Nod on the east side of Eden. He then has a son named Enoch, who has a son named Irad who begot Mehujael, who begot Methushael, who begot Lamech. Now Lamech took for himself two wives! This is the first recorded instance of bigamy. We can see how Lamech led the Cainites to openly rebel against God concerning His marriage law He established in Genesis 2:24. Adah, one of Lamech's wives, had a son named Jubal who evidently created stringed instruments. Oh great! you mean my playing the guitar came from the lineage of Cain? ...kidding.
It is so cool to see how much of the New Testament is in the Old Testament. We read in Genesis 4:25,26 that God blesses Adam and Eve again with a new son named Seth. Seth was a godly son whom the seed of redemption (Gen. 3:15) would pass all the way through to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Luke3:38). What a blessing it is to meet together as men to study God's word!
